Bob Ide’s artistic journey began at T.L. Kennedy High School, where the dedicated Art program spearheaded by Mr. John (Rocky) Rahcola ignited his passion for Art and Art History. This specialized stream within the school focused on nurturing creative minds, a legacy that continues. Bob’s studies later led him to Sheridan College, where he delved into Photography and Art. However, life’s various chapters—marriage, raising children, and pursuing careers—sidetracked Bob’s artistic pursuits until retirement provided the opportunity to rekindle old passions.

Several years ago, the desire to reconnect with his artistic interests led him back to the realm of Art. Seeking a fresh start and a return to the basics, I enrolled in a foundational drawing class under the guidance of Chris Summerhayes. In that very first class, his instruction transformed Bob’s approach to sketching, unveiling a newfound depth and perspective in his work.

 “A half-century after my initial attempt, I found myself captivated once again, particularly when I attempted my first eye drawing. This experience reignited my artistic flame, driving me to share my knowledge.”

Today, Bob is elated to impart the fundamental techniques of sketching, beginning with the elemental “pointy end of the pencil.” His journey has expanded beyond drawing, and now he explores the realms of Watercolor, Acrylic, and Oil painting.
